Phototransistors means they are transistors which are controlled by a beam of light provided by an IR LED so construction wise this IC has an IR LED which when powered make the transistor in the IC conduct. This IC can be used as a fast and isolating substitute for the Electromechanical Relays which comes very handy when you are trying to isolate a noisy signal from your digital IC design. You can also use this IC as a logical isolated Buffer with proper voltage supplies. One part of the internal circuit is connected to the IR circuit and other part of the circuit is connected to the transistor thereby isolating both parts of the circuits. Input Diode Forward Voltage is 1.25V and Collector Emitter Voltage is 30V and transistor Hfe is 300.
