DB9 connectors were once very common on PCs and servers. DB9 connectors are designed to work with the EIA/TIA 232 serial interface standard, which determined the function of all nine pins as a standard so that multiple companies could design them into their products. This is a common standard connector used in USART, RJ45, or RS232. DB9 connectors were commonly used for serial peripheral devices like keyboards, mice, joysticks, etc. Also, they are used on DB9 cable assemblies for data connectivity. This DB9 Female connector with 9 female pins on one side and 9 half-cylindrical pins on the other side to make soldering easier. It is commonly used when two controllers have to transmit information for long distance through a wired connection. Also, it is used in Modems, Stepper Motor or Servo Motor interfaces, Telephones etc. It is normally used along with the DB9 Male connector.
Product Description
In RS232 communication, we can differentiate pins in two categories, first data pins RXD and TXD to Transmit and Receive data and six of them are Control pins to establish an interface to avoid data loss and a reference ground pin. Control pins determine if there is receiver ready to receive data or when to request the data and when the data is to be sent so that no data be lost in this transmission process, and thereby increasing the reliability. It is an Asynchronous transmission so there is no shared clock between the devices. But the disadvantage is RS232 can connect only one device with one set of connections.
