A triac is a bidirectional electronic switch which can be controlled by the digital circuits as it can be triggered by either positive or negative voltage so you can conduct in both the directions. The maximum terminal current is 4A so if you are looking for a device which you will use to control switching AC loads like AC dimming or AC motor speed control for loads consuming less than 4A with the help of a development board or microcontroller then BT136 Triac is right. You need to give more than gate threshold voltage at the gate terminal to make the device conduct which is 1.4V so you can control with both Arduino and Raspberry pi boards which operate at either 5V or 3.3V. Maximum terminal voltage is 600V. Other applications include Power control circuits, Noise coupling circuits etc.
