The 74HC164 is a serial-input, parallel-output 8-bit edge-triggered shift register. Data is entered serially through one of two inputs (A or B), either of these inputs can be used as an active high enable for data entry through the other input. Data is entered on each rising edge of the clock. The active low asynchronous Reset overrides the Clock and Serial Data inputs. The 74HC164 IC is a type of SIPO Shift Register. It characterized by its high performance combined with low power consumption. Application areas include General Purpose Logic, in networking and Computer peripherals.
