As like other optocouplers, it has an infrared emitting diode that optically controls a phototransistor. The forward voltage of the diode is typically 1.2V at 20mA of forward current. It is packaged in a 4-pin DIP Package.

Since it is the EL817C, it has the CTR value of 200-400 % at 5mA forward current with 5V of collector-emitter voltage. The phototransistor supports a maximum of 50mA collector current.
