The 74HC139; 74HCT139 decodes two binary weighted address inputs (A0, A1) to four mutually exclusive outputs (Y0 to Y3). Each decoder features an enable input (E). When E is HIGH all outputs are forced HIGH. The enable input can be used as the data input for a 1-to-4 demultiplexer application. Inputs include clamp diodes. This enables the use of current limiting resistors to interface inputs to voltages in excess of VCC. The operating voltage range is from 3V to 6V though recommended voltage is 5V and supply current is 50mA. The output current through the pins is 25mA. You can use demux to create a parallel data stream from a serial data stream, ALU data can be sent to different registers with the help of demux basically whenever you want to send the same data to different places, you can use this IC.
